The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) hosted six delegates from the Department of Fisheries and Coastal Development and the Gwadar Lasbela Livelihood Support Project (GLLSP-Phase II), Government of Balochistan, Pakistan on 9 April 2025. The visit included an introduction to SEAFDEC's regional role and mission, discussions on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and fisheries resource stock assessments, and tours of the Fishing Workshop and M.V. The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized an “On-site Training on Traceability for Fish and Fishery Products in Lao PDR” from 18 to 20 March 2025 in Vientiane, Lao PDR. SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) welcomed sixty university students who take a class of marine science from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) on 21 February 2025. The students learned about SEAFDEC's role in Southeast Asia, attended a lecture on the principles of fishing gear survey and data collection, and toured facilities including the fishing workshop and the M.V. M.V. SEAFDEC2 conducted her mission on survey assessing the abundance of fishery resources and asses the presence and impact of marine debris and microplastics in the aquatic environment in the Gulf of Thailand from 10 February to 14 March 2025. The survey covered 62 stations in the Gulf of Thailand. and aimed to evaluate the impacts of marine debris and microplastics on fisheries resources. This survey is an activity of the project “Regional Collaborative Research and Capacity Building for Monitoring and Reduction of Marine Debris from Fisheries in Southeast Asia” .

SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) has partnered with Norway's Institute of Marine Research (IMR) to carry out a demonstration survey on to use of Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) for locating and retrieving abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) in Rayong Province. The pervasive issue of abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) has contributed significantly to environmental degradation, including habitat destruction, interaction with threatened/endangered species, navigational hazards, and "ghost fishing" where lost gear continues to capture marine life, threatening sustainable fisheries.
