M.V. SEAFDEC 2 Conducts a Mission in Brunei Darussalam

SEAFDEC/TD collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Brunei Darussalam conducts a mission on marine resources and oceanographic surveys in the waters of Brunei Darussalam by M.V. SEAFDEC 2 from 22 April to 10 June 2024. The surveys include the demersal and pelagic fisheries resources with bottom trawl, midwater trawl, and pelagic longline. The survey plans to use oceanographic equipment to collect samples of the water, fish larval resources, and plankton in the on-shelf and off-shelf marine areas by Conductivity, Temperature, Depth (CTD), Neuston net, Bongo net, Phytoplankton net. Moreover, the hydroacoustic survey by Simrat EK80 is also conducted. 
 
M.V. SEAFDEC 2 is a 211 GT steel trawler, that was officially launched at Niigata, Japan on 6 December 2003. M.V. SEAFDEC 2 is used to assess the utilization of fishery resources in SEAFDEC Member Countries by means of extensive scientific surveys of their coastal resources. The vessel is also used to implement fishery training programs for resources management and fisheries personnel. In a broader sense, the acquisition of M.V. SEAFDEC 2 will help strengthen technical cooperation and effective fisheries and environmental management in the ASEAN region through the enhancement of research and training capacity.
