The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), organized the Regional Training on Socioeconomic Data and Community Resilience in Small-scale Fisheries from 27 to 31 October 2025 at SEAFDEC/TD, Samut Prakan, Thailand. This regional training was conducted under the project “Improving Fishers’ Livelihood and Fisheries Co-management in Inland and Coastal Small-scale Fisheries,” which aims to build regional technical capacity in socioeconomic data collection and analysis to better support small-scale fisheries (SSF) management across the region. The training invited resource persons, including Dr. Yinji Li (Tokai University, Japan), Dr. Monissa Srisomwong and Dr. Nayrata Pinnetdharn (Kasetsart University, Thailand), Dr. Suvaluck Satumanatpan (Mahidol University, Thailand), Ms. Angela Lentisco (FAO-RAP), and Mr. Leo Baldiga (University of Michigan, USA). They shared their extensive expertise in socioeconomic assessment, fisheries management, and community resilience to enhance participants understanding and practical skills. A total of 45 participants (31 women and 14 men) attended, representing Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam, as well as the Regional Fisheries Policy Network (RFPN) and staff from SEAFDEC Secretariat, TD, and IFRDMD.
The training comprised two main sessions: Lecture sessions held here at SEAFDEC/Training Department (TD), and Field practice in Chonburi Province, where participants will have hands-on experience in applying socioeconomic survey tools and participatory methods with local fishing communities. This training contributed to strengthening regional collaboration and enhancing the capacity of fisheries officers in understanding and applying socioeconomic information for sustainable small-scale fisheries management.
