SEAFDEC and ECCA Family Foundation Explore Collaborative Opportunities for Community-Based Resource Management

On 22 January 2026, Ms. Carol Liew, Managing Director, Ms. Chonlada Janpum, Senior Grants and Partnerships Manager for Thailand, led a team from the ECCA Family Foundation on a visit to the SEAFDEC Secretariat. The delegation met with senior staff from both the Secretariat and the Training Department to discuss potential avenues for future collaboration.

The meeting focused on aligning the missions of both organizations. While the ECCA Family Foundation is dedicated to environmental conservation and supporting local communities in Thailand, SEAFDEC works toward the sustainable development of fisheries across Southeast Asia.

A key point of discussion was the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM). The two parties explored how ECCA’s community focus complements SEAFDEC’s goal of empowering local communities to manage resources sustainably for better livelihoods. The visit served as a vital platform for both organizations to familiarize themselves with their respective mandates and lay the groundwork for future partnerships.
