SEAFDEC/TD and DOF Thailand Collaborate to Study the Indo-Pacific Mackerel Supply Chain in Thasala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Thailand

The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Marine Fisheries Research and Development Division, the Department of Fisheries (DOF), Thailand, conducted a study on the “Indo-Pacific Mackerel Supply Chain from Mackerel Gillnet Fisheries in Thasala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.” The activity took place from 10 to 14 November 2025 in Ban Nai Thung, Thasala sub-district, Thasala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Thailand, and was implemented with the support of the Japanese Trust Fund.

The study aims to analyze the Indo-Pacific mackerel supply chain by mapping key actors and identifying challenges across production, processing, distribution, and marketing. The survey was conducted through semi-structure interviews with fishers, traders, restaurant operators, and consumers to examine how profits and costs are shared along the supply chain. The findings will contribute to assessing economic efficiency, market dynamics, and value addition, thereby providing insights to promote equity, fair income distribution, and sustainability in small-scale fisheries.
