SEAFDEC/TD Staff Participate in EAFM Training Course in India

Two staff from SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) participated in the Regional Training Course on the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF) and the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) from 15 to 30 November 2024, in Chennai and Kochi, India, which organized by the Bay of Bengal Programme Inter-Governmental Organisation (BOBP-IGO). This Training is an activity under BOBLME II project. Nineteen participants from Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and SEAFDEC/TD attended the Training. The training aimed to strengthen understanding of responsible fisheries and their role in securing livelihoods and fishery resources, build practical skills for fisheries practitioners to apply the principles of responsible fisheries in their contexts, and develop a comprehensive understanding of multidimensional issues and explore effective solutions through an expanded ecosystem approach. The Training consisted of four modules as governance considerations, ecological and environmental considerations, socioeconomic considerations, and technological considerations. In addition, participants observed fishing activities such as fish landings for both large-scale and small-scale fisheries and institutional organizations to gain insights into the latest advancements in fisheries and environmental sciences. This combination of theoretical and practical components provided participants with a holistic understanding of sustainable fisheries management and ecosystem-based approaches.
