Inception Workshop Launched Project on Small-scale Fisheries

SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) and Inland Fisheries Resource Development and Management Department (SEAFDEC/IFRDMD) co-organized the Inception Workshop for the project “Improving Fishers’ Livelihood and Fisheries Co-management in Inland and Coastal Small-scale Fisheries” on 30 July 2025, which will implement from 2025 to 2029 supported by the Japanese Trust Fund (JTF). The project aims to strengthen small-scale fisheries through improved livelihoods and co-management strategies. The virtual workshop was attended by 47 participants (27 female and 20 male), including representatives from SEAFDEC Member Countries as well as staff from SEAFDEC Secretariat (SEC), SEAFDEC/TD, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD, and Regional Fisheries Policy Network (RFPN) members. The workshop provided an overview of the project’s objectives and planned activities, while also serving as a platform for participants to provide valuable recommendations to shape the direction of the project, such as implementing localized capacity-building programs, integrating gender perspectives, and promoting knowledge sharing and lesson exchange among participating countries. The event encouraged discussion and cooperation among countries, helping to build a strong foundation for the successful implementation of the project.
