SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) recently hosted a specialized training course from 22 September to 3 October 2025. The program, titled “Tailor-Made Training Course on Maritime Adaptability and Basic Marine Fishing Gear for Lao PDR” Batch No. 2, took place at the SEAFDEC/TD office in Samut Prakan, Thailand. This training was specifically designed at the request of the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare of Lao PDR and was sponsored by the Republic of Korea. It was attended by 20 participants from Lao PDR and aimed to equip them with the necessary skills for overseas employment in the maritime sector, particularly in Korea.
The comprehensive curriculum was divided into four key sections: Maritime adaptability: focused on preparing participants for working and living at sea, Accident response and safety at sea: taught essential skills for handling emergencies, Basic marine fishing gear and practice: provided both theoretical and hands-on experience with fundamental fishing equipment, and Shipboard training on M.V. PLALUNG: a 40-hour practical session on a training vessel. Participants learned to operate various gears, including bottom trawls, collapsible crab traps, vertical longlines, and gill nets, while further developing their maritime adaptability.
