ในปัจจุบันนั้นหอยขมในประเทศเหลือน้อยลงและใกล้สูญพันธ์ เนื่องมาจากการใช้สารเคมีจากการทำการเกษตรในรูปแบบต่างๆ แต่ความนิยมในการนำหอยขมมาทำเป็นอาหารนั้นยังมีอยู่ และรสชาตินั้นก็อร่อยถูกปากของคนไทยโดยเฉพาะทางอีสานและในปัจจุบันนั้นปริมาณของหอยขมลดน้อยลงมาก ไม่เพียงพอต่อการรับประทานหรือนำมาเป็นอาหาร รวมทั้งมีความต้องการในตลาดสูงมากเพราะรสชาติดีหอยขมจึงถือว่าเป็นสัตว์น้ำเศรษฐกิจอีกตัวก็ว่าได้ หอยขม (Filopaludina martensi munensis) หอยขม  หรือในบางท้องถิ่นเรีอกว่า หอยจุ๊บ หรือหอยดูด เป็นที่รู้จักกันดีและมีขายในตลาดทั่วไป  เป็นหอยฝาเดียว ที่พบเฉพาะในแหล่งน้ำจืดเท่านั้น นิยมนำมาทำอาหาร เช่น แกงคั่วหอยขม แกงอ่อมหอยขม และอื่น ๆ โดยส่วนมากจะพบจากแหล่งธรรมชาติ โดยชาวบ้านในท้องที่เก็บมาขาย หรือพบบริเวณบ่อเลี้ยงปลา ซึ่งเป็นผลพลอยได้สำหรับเจ้าของบ่อเลี้ยงปลา แต่ในปัจจุบันมีการทำฟาร์มเพื่อการเพาะเลี้ยงหอยขมในกระชังโดยเฉพาะ หอยขมเป็นสัตว์ที่มีความอดทนต่อสภาพแวดล้อม เลี้ยงง่าย เจริญเติบโตเร็ว และขยายพันธุ์เร็ว  Read More (PDF file format) View on...
