Why do we need acoustic survey?
- To estimate the abundance and spatial distribution of fishery resources efficiently.
- To survey large areas rapidly while collecting continuous data along survey transects.
- To monitor temporal and spatial changes in fishery resources.
Limitation: Acoustic data alone usually cannot identify species with certainty, so biological sampling is required for validation.
Why do we need biological sampling?
- Provide biological information needed to convert acoustic backscatter into biomass estimates.
