Delegates from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), led by Mr. Isidro M. Velayo, Jr., MDM (Director IV and SEAFDEC Alternate Council Director for the Philippines), visited the SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) on 15 May 2026. The primary objective of the visit was to conduct an ocular inspection of the M.V. SEAFDEC as part of a proposed plan for the vessel’s disposal. During the visit, SEAFDEC/TD officials provided a comprehensive briefing on the vessel’s history and current status. The delegation was then guided through a detailed inspection of the ship, including navigation bridge, engine room, accommodation areas, and deck equipment.
The M.V. SEAFDEC is a 1,178 GT steel purse seiner, originally built in Japan through a grant from the Japanese Government and delivered to the Training Department in February 1993. Following the resolution approved during the 57th SEAFDEC Council Meeting in 2025, SEAFDEC/TD has initiated a plan to dispose of the vessel, making it available to interested SEAFDEC Member Countries for future use or repurpose.
