SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) staff, Mr. Kongpathai Saraphaivanich, Head of the IUU Fishing Countermeasure Section, delivered a presentation titled “SEAFDEC Implementation and Support Activities to Combat IUU Fishing in Southeast Asia” on 20 November 2025. The presentation was made during the “ASEAN Regional Meeting on Exchange of Experiences and Best Practices for Onboard Observers and Sharing of Information on National Fisheries/Port Laws and Regulations for Designated Ports for Foreign Fishing Vessels, and Best Practices on Fishing Vessel Inspection.”
The meeting was co-organized by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Department of Fisheries (DOF), Thailand, and took place from 17 to 21 November 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand. The event was well-attended by representatives from ASEAN Member States (AMSs). The presentation focused on key aspects of programs and activities by SEAFDEC for combating IUU fishing in the region, priority areas for future action to combat IUU fishing in Southeast Asia, SEAFDEC implemented activities and achievements on supporting AMSs for combating IUU fishing, recommendations and ways for transshipment at sea in Southeast Asia.
