On 5 March 2026, the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center/Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries (DOF) Thailand, organized a seminar entitled “Give to Gain for Gender Equality in Fisheries in Thailand” in celebration of International Women’s Day 2026. The event aimed to promote awareness of gender equality and support the roles of women in the fisheries sector of Thailand.
The activity was conducted under the main theme of International ’s Day 2026, “Give to Gain,” which emphasizes sharing, generosity, and collaboration to sustainably advance gender equality. This was achieved through the exchange of experiences, good practices, and lessons learned in integrating gender dimensions into the fisheries sector.
In addition, an exhibition was organized during the event to showcase initiatives and activities reflecting the spirit of “giving” to create opportunities and promote gender equality in fisheries. This also strengthened the organizational image in implementing socially responsible approaches alongside the sustainable development of fisheries resources.
This event was attended by participants from various national, regional, and international organizations, including the DOF Thailand, Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development (DWF), Mahidol University, Sustainable Development Foundation (SDF), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), and SEAFDEC.
It marks another important step in supporting the equal participation of women and men in the fisheries sector and aligns with the policies of Thailand and SEAFDEC to promote gender equality for sustainable development.
