The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) is participating in Thailand’s national fishery exhibition, “Pramong Nomklao,” organized by the Department of Fisheries. The event took place from 3 to 12 July 2026, at Future Park Department Store in Pathum Thani Province, Thailand. SEAFDEC/TD is hosting an exhibition under the theme “Smart Gear, Save Sea” to raise public awareness about sustainable fishing technologies and marine ecosystem conservation.
This year’s exhibit specifically highlights fishing tools designed to minimize negative impacts on marine mammals, showcasing practical solutions such as the use of circle hooks and acoustic deterrent devices or pinger. Furthermore, SEAFDEC/TD is addressing the critical issue of marine debris caused by Abandoned, Lost, or otherwise Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG). The exhibition educates visitors on vital preventative measures like the proper marking of fishing gear, alongside modern retrieval methods utilizing Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) to locate and recover ALDFG from the ocean.
