SEAFDEC/TD, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries Myanmar and Myanmar Universities, is conducting a mission on “Fisheries Resources Survey in the Myanmar Waters by M.V. SEAFDEC 2” from 12 February to 2 April 2026. The survey aims to assess the status of marine fisheries resources and environment information in Taninthayi Coastal Fishing Area, Myanmar waters together with the capacity building for both SEAFDEC/TD and Myanmar researchers.
Across a total of 45 survey stations, the survey covers demersal and pelagic fishery resources using bottom vertical longlines and midwater trawls. The survey utilizes oceanographic equipment to collect environmental samples, including microplastics, fish larvae, plankton, and sediment. These are obtained via Conductivity, Temperature, Depth (CTD), Neuston net, Bongo net, Phytoplankton net, and Smith McIntyre grab, respectively. Moreover, the hydroacoustic survey by SIMRAD EK80 is also conducted.
