SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), organized the “Regional Workshop on Information Exchange on Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS) for Combating IUU Fishing in Southeast Asia” from 24 to 26 February 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. This workshop was an activities under
The project “Strengthening Regional Capacity to Combat IUU Fishing and Promote Safe, Fair and Sustainable Fisheries in Southeast Asia” which has been implementing from 2024 to 2026. A total of 45 participants who are practitioner level and responsible for MCS activities to combat IUU fishing from ASEAN Member Countries (AMSs), except Singapore, as well as representatives from FAO/RAP, GIZ, the SEAFDEC Secretariat, and the SEAFDEC/TD attended the workshop. The workshop provided an important opportunity for AMSs to share information, strengthen cooperation, and enhance joint efforts on MCS to combat IUU fishing. Moreover, the discussion on coordination on MCS to combat IUU fishing in the region and regional capacity building needs was conducted during the workshop. The outputs will be used for consideration to conduct capacity building under the project in the future.
