SEAFDEC/TD Introduced New Project on “Improving Fishers’ Livelihood and Fisheries Co-Management” in Bangsaphan District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province

The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized the First Meeting to introduce the project “Improving Fishers’ Livelihood and Fisheries Co-Management in Inland and Coastal Small-Scale Fisheries” on 7 October 2025 at the Bangsaphan Fishers Association, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Thailand. The event was attended by Mr. Somnuk Promsorn, Chief of Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Fisheries Office, Mr. Sutin Prasertsak, Chief of Bangsaphan District Office, and Ms. Jinda Petchkamnerd, Director of Chumphon Marine Fisheries Research and Development and also gathered representatives from the Japanese Trust Fund (JTF), SEAFDEC/TD staff, Bangsaphan District Fisheries Office, and local fishers, with a total of 50 participants (including 40 men and 10 women).

This meeting marked the official introduction of the five-year project (2025–2029), which aims to strengthen the livelihoods and resilience of small-scale fishing communities in Southeast Asia. Thailand, as one of the coastal pilot sites, was selected in recognition of its strong national commitment to sustainable fisheries and community-based management approaches. The project focuses on enhance human capacity, promote sustainable fisheries practices, and encourage community participation through Community-Based Fisheries Management (CBFM) and Co-management. It also promotes livelihood diversification, financial inclusion, and inclusive value chains, empowering both women and men while enhancing resilience and long-term economic opportunities. This initiative represents SEAFDEC/TD’s continued commitment to supporting small-scale fisheries development and sustainable livelihoods throughout the region.
