SEAFDEC/TD Organizes Tailor-Made Training on Maritime Adaptability and Fishing Gear for Lao PDR

The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) commenced a specialized “Tailor-Made Training Course on Maritime Adaptability and Basic Marine Fishing Gear for Lao PDR” from 30 June to 11 July 2025, held at the SEAFDEC/TD office in Samut Prakan, Thailand. This bespoke training initiative was developed in response to a request from the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare of Lao PDR and is sponsored by relevant agencies of the Government of the Republic of Korea. Twenty Lao participants are attending the course, which aims to enhance the capacity of Lao nationals for overseas employment, particularly in the Republic of Korea’s maritime sector.

The comprehensive training program covers four key areas: 1) maritime adaptability: preparing participants for life and work at sea, 2) accident response and safety at sea: essential knowledge and skills for emergency situations, 3) basic marine fishing gear and practice: understanding and practical application of fundamental fishing equipment, 4) shipboard training on M.V. PLALUNG: A forty-hour practical session onboard the training vessel, covering the operation and practice of bottom trawl, collapsible crab traps, bottom vertical longlines, and gill nets, alongside further development of maritime adaptability.
