SEAFDEC/TD Welcomes Delegation from International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA-Bangkok) to Explore Future Collaborations

SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) warmly welcomed a delegation of seven visitors from the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA-Bangkok) on 24 June 2025. The visit aimed to foster potential future collaborations in training and capacity building. During their visit, SEAFDEC/TD representatives provided the ILEA-Bangkok delegation with a comprehensive overview of SEAFDEC’s vital role and extensive implementation activities across the Southeast Asian region, particularly in sustainable fisheries development and combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The visitors were also given a tour of SEAFDEC/TD’s facilities, including the main conference room, lecture room, and the M.V. SEAFDEC training vessel. These observations are expected to lay the groundwork for potential future cooperative initiatives in training programs.
The International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) Bangkok, a collaborative training center established in 1998 by the U.S. and Thai governments, plays a crucial role in enhancing the capacity of law enforcement agencies and promoting regional cooperation to combat transnational organized crime, including narcotics, financial crimes, cybercrime, and human trafficking. This visit underscores the growing recognition of the interconnectedness of various sectors, including fisheries, in addressing broader law enforcement challenges.
